Designed to attach the steering knuckle and wheel assembly to the vehicle, your control arms are a crucial part of your steering system. The bushings themselves absorb impacts from the road, smoothing and quieting out your ride. 

The material used to absorb impact and vibrations in OEM bushings is rubber which had served the automotive industry for well over 80 years. With age, however, rubber loses its natural oils due to the elements, causing it to harden up, dry rot, crack and sag under the weight of the vehicle. It will lose its ability to absorb impacts and vibrations, and it will sag throwing off your suspension geometry and wheel alignment. When this happens, you start hearing more of the road noises, feeling more of its impact, losing your ability to steer the vehicle as was intended and wear out your front tires.

At JeePerf, we build each bushing to exceed OE specifications by a great margin. Using modern materials and novel design techniques, we build our bushings for longevity, comfort, low to no maintenance requirements, precise steering and perfect fit. While the OE bushings might sag or rot away with time, our control arm bushings will have a very long service life.  


Why use jeePerf bushings?  


We build our bushings to achieve special design targets. They need to have a precise fit, very long, reliable service life, steady, non-degradable performance throughout their service life, and to have better value than OEM offerings. For control arms, they also need to provide an unimpeded, smooth, non-binding, fluid motion that is also comfortable to live with on a daily basis. 


In order to achieve that we decided to:  


- Use softer, specially treated, permanently lubricated Polyurethane to dampen road noise and provide a quiet, comfortable yet very well controlled ride. Our soft polyurethane compound is proprietarily treated to provide ride qualities similar to NEW rubber in comfort, yet have the famous long service life of polyurethane.  


- Use a fully floating bushing design so it will maintain a fluid, resistance free, full range of motion. An added benefit to our design technique is you will never have ro worry about cutting up a seized bolt again.

Bolts can fuse themselves up to the metal bushings due to heat generated by friction between the bolt and the metal surface of the bushing. This happens with OEM style rubber bushings. Our floating bushings generate no friction at all and bolts don't seize up because of that.


- Use chromoly alloy for crush pins and spacers to provide extremely solid engagement to the vehicle yet hard enough not to fuse itself to the mounting bolt that made replacing the bushing in the past a tough and expensive exercise.


With this design we are able to achieve more flexing and more load handling capacity than OEM, while maintaining low NVH, and long service life at the same time. 


We strongly believe that using our front LCA bushings is a great upgrade to your front LCA that will give you the best road handling, daily driver, on/off-road handling possible. 


You now might be asking, if this design is so good, why doesn't my LCA OEM bushings come from the manufacturer this way?   The simple answer to this is COST. These bushings are expensive to produce. Very high end vehicle manufacturers do use novel designs as OEM when pure performance is their end goal, since the bushings cost gets absorbed into how much they sell their vehicles for (think Ferraris, Porsches, BMWs, race prepared vehicles, ...etc.). We believe our bushings are the ultimate upgrade to an otherwise average, OEM bushings and we invite you to consider them as a long life, high end upgrade to your OEM like alternatives.

    • Use heavy duty, low maintenance, spherical bearings in a sealed Polyurethane designed enclosure, to provide low or no maintenance, fluid, complete range of motion. 


    Why did we decide to use Spherical Bearings for this bushing Design? 

    This particular bushing (equivalent to MOOG's K200183) is used to secure the lower mount of the front strut to the lower control arm. It should provide the front strut the ability to be solidly mounted, move freely during its stroke range, and absorb road noise and vibrations before they get to the cabin of the vehicle. The OEM bushing is designed with controlled, yet minimal flexing using rubber and air gaps placed in the rubber. What the OEM design is trying to provide is some limited flexing capabilities to the bushing using the manufacturer's constraints of using rubber and rolled metal (!!!) crush pin for cost reasons.  

    We decided to re-engineer this bushing design to provide the ultimate in flexing. The best way to achieve this is by using spherical bearings. Spherical bearings when used in automotive bushings have many advantages but also have their fair share of disadvantages.  

     

    Spherical Bearings Disadvantages

     

    Spherical bushings are noisy, rough riding and in general do a great job controlling the motion of a vehicle but with a lot of added noise, vibration and harshness. They are used in racing vehicles to provide the ultimate in handling and control but can only be endured for a short period of time like during a race or a track day. As they stand, they are not very practical for a daily driver. 

    Spherical Bearings Advantages 

    Spherical Bearings are multi-rotational providing smooth, fluid and unconstrained range of motion, they also have very high load capacity, and have negligible vertical deflection under load. 

    We asked ourselves a question:

     

    Can we get most of the Spherical Bearings advantages in a bushing design while minimizing their shortcomings at the same time? 

    We believe we succeeded in striking that practical balance between control and comfort in this bushing design by using a novel design technique. 

    We used a spherical bearing along with its misalignment spacers as a crush pin in a bushing. Think of it as a free pivoting crush pin. This is what gives our bushings the better ability to flex. We used the best Spherical bearings we can find, built their misalignment spacers using Chromoly 4140 steel alloy for the ultimate in strength, enclosed this whole assembly in a specially designed soft Polyurethane, sealed enclosure then press fit that whole assembly into the bushing sleeve.  

    With this design (we call it SSS for soft, sealed, spherical) we are able to achieve more flexing and more load handling capacity than OEM, while maintaining low NVH at the same time. 

    We strongly believe that using our front LCA bushings will upgrade your front LCA and give you the best road handling, daily driver, on/off-road vehicle possible. 

    You now might be asking, if this design is so good, why doesn't my LCA OEM bushings come from the vehicle manufacturer this way?
